Tennis Teams Split With Mount St. Mary’s

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's men's and women's tennis teams hosted Mount St. Mary's University on Saturday at the McClure Tennis Center, garnering a split in the dual matches with the women taking a 4-3 victory but the men falling, 6-1.
 
Lauren Manwiller and Emma Roeck scored a 6-2 win over Bella Pescatore and Venus Tang at No. 1 doubles, and Christine Richiez paired with Jessica Bodewes for a 6-3 victory against Margherita Trolese and Amari O'Brien at No. 2. Jocelyn Assael and Emi Shivkumar teamed at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep with a 6-0 win over Valentine Mudry and Kaajal Ramisetty.
 
Tang and Trolese, however, scored points for Mount St. Mary's with wins at No. 1 and 2 singles. Tang topped Richiez, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, at No. 1, and Trolese outlasted Manwiller, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. Pescatore was also a winner in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, at No. 5 over Roeck for the Mountaineers.
 
Elena Hartley picked up a point for Loyola with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ramisetty at No. 3, and Mia Matriccino beat O'Brien, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4. Bodewes earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mudry at No. 6 singles.
 
On the men's side, Cristian Pemueller split the first two sets with Alessio Guarino at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-7 (4), and he then won a super-tiebreaker, 10-6, for the Greyhounds' point.
 
Akarsh Gaonkar and Alexi Roy beat Noah Castillo and Ryan Gill, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles, and Filippos Zachiotis joined Lucas Evans for a 6-4 win over Ryan Boland and Pemueller at No. 2. Ryan Wagner and Aaron Thompson downed Harry Zeiders and George Cavo, 6-3, at No. 3
 
Gaonkar beat Castillo, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Roy was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Cavo at No. 2. Zachiotis defeated Boland, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3, and Evans had a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Gill at No. 4. Thompson and Blake Edwards played a three-set match at No. 5 singles with the first two going to tiebrakers. Thompson came away with a 6-7 (3), 7-6 (2), (10-6) win.
