LAKE NONA, Fla. –
Elena Hartley,
Mia Matriccino and
Jessica Bodewes picked up singles victories on Tuesday after the Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team won the opening doubles point in a 4-3 victory for the Greyhounds over Bowling Green.
Matriccino used straight sets to beat Leticia Fonseca, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4, and Hartley and Bodewes both earned three-set wins for Loyola.
Hartley came back from a 0-6 loss in the first set to Konstantina Adamopoulou to win the second and third sets by matching 6-2, 6-2 scores on the No. 3 line.
Bodewes split the first two sets at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 4-6, with Brynn Chaffee, but the Loyola senior came back to claim the third, 6-2.
Loyola put the doubles point in its column with victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
Lauren Manwiller and
Emma Roeck beat Tia Clemens and Isabella Baker, 6-0, in the top flight, and then
Christine Richiez and Bodewes got past Qianyu Liiu and Adamopoulou, 6-4, at No. 2.
Bowling Green won the No. 3 doubles match, 6-1, as Fonseca and Lucia Gaio beat
Jocelyn Assael and
Emi Shivkumar.
In other singles matches, Clemens beat Richiez, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1, and Liu used a tiebreaker in the second set to edge Manwiller, 6-4, 7-6 (2). Gaio was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against Roeck at No. 5.
