Chase Boyle recorded seven points for the visiting Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team, but No. 9 Florida University used a fast start to down the visiting Greyhounds, 15-9, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Boyle led Loyola with six goals and a assist, as
Georgia Latch,
Ava Kane, and
Elisa Faklaris each scored on the afternoon.
Florida scored the opening goal in the first quarter, as they scored just over three and a half minutes into the quarter. Boyle responded two minutes later with her first goal of the day, as the Greyhounds tied it up at 1-1 early in the game.
The Gators (4-2 overall) gained the momentum over the next 11 minutes of game time, as they went on a 5-0 run that expanded into the second quarter, as Florida led 6-1 with 12:08 remaining in the first half.
Ava Kane ended the Florida run, as she took the pass from Boyle, and shot high-to-low for her 11th goal of the season.
Loyola and Florida alternated goals to close out the first half, as
Chase Boyle scored her third of the game with 1:07 left in the half, as the Greyhounds (4-3 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) went into halftime trailing 8-4.
Loyola came out of halftime with the momentum, as they scored two goals within the first two minutes of the game, as they trailed 8-6 with 12:19 left in the third quarter.
Florida once again used a 5-0 run to pull back ahead of Loyola, as they used the run to lead 13-6 with 11:29 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Boyle and Faklaris both scored within two minutes of each other to end the run, but Florida would add two more goals in the fourth quarter, as they held on for the 15-9 win.
Lauren Spence recorded a season-high 12 saves on the afternoon for Loyola.
Chase Boyle and the Greyhounds controlled the draw circle, as they held the advantage 20-8 on Saturday afternoon. Boyle finished with nine draw controls, while
Georgia Latch had seven, and
Lily Osborne had four.
The Greyhounds return to Ridley next week for a pair of home games, as they will host Penn on Wednesday evening, before hosting Army on Saturday.
