Chase Boyle broke the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse record with 22 draws on Saturday afternoon, as the Greyhounds won in a shootout, 20-14, over Boston University.
Along with Boyle's 22 draws, the Greyhounds broke the team single-game draw record, as they won 33 draws in the win. Boyle broke Taylor VanThof's single-game record of 21, which was set on April 1, 2017, as the team broke the previous record of 27, which was also set on April 1, 2017.
Boyle finished with a game-high eight points on the day, as she had seven goals and an assist.
Georgia Latch had seven points (3 goals, 4 assists), while
Elisa Faklaris had six goals and
Emma Talago had two goals and four assists for six points on the afternoon.
The Terriers (7-6 overall, 2-4 Patriot League) opened the game with a goal just over two and a half minutes into the game, as they took the early lead.
Loyola answered 31 seconds later, as
Emma Talago found
Georgia Latch for the goal to tie the game.
Elisa Faklaris scored a pair of goals within 35 seconds of each other, assisted by Talago and Latch. Latch would add her first goal of the game just 11 seconds later, as Loyola won the draw before Latch raced down the field and scored, as Loyola led 4-1 with 7:25 left in the first quater.
The Greyhounds (10-5 overall, 7-0 Patriot League) continued their strong first quarter, as Faklaris capped off the quarter with a goal right before the horn, as they led 7-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Faklaris scored her fourth goal of the first half early in the second quarter, to extend the lead to six goals. After a Boston goal, Talago and Boyle scored to close out the half, as Loyola led 11-4 at half.
Coming out of halftime, Boston scored just a minute and a half into the half, but
Chase Boyle responded with a pair of goals, to lead 13-4 with 11:41 remaining.
Boston found some momentum in the third quarter, as they outscored Loyola 6-3 to close out the third quarter, as they cut their deficit to six goals, as they trailed 16-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
Ava Kane ended the Boston run, as she scored on the free-position 45 seconds into the fourth quarter, but the Terriers scored two goals, unanswered, to trail by five goals. Loyola and Boston traded free-position goals, as Faklaris and Boyle scored goals to put a exclamation point on their 20-14 win on a cold and rainy day in Boston.
Loyola dominated the circle, as they won 33 of 37 draws on the day, to set a program record. Boyle had 22 draws, while Latch had 6, and
Lily Osborne had 5. To go along with her big offensive day,
Georgia Latch led the team with three caused turnovers in the win.
With the regular season closing down, the Greyhounds will host Holy Cross next Saturday for Loyola's senior day at 12:00 PM.
