Three Hounds In Top-Five As Golf Takes 18-Hole Lead At Patriot League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three Loyola University Maryland golfers shot 1-under 69 on Friday to tie for fourth individually, and the Greyhounds finished the opening 18 holes with a two-shot lead after day one of the Patriot League Championships.

Jackson Roman birdied three of his last five holes and joined teammates Gustavo Rangel and Eli Spaulding at 1-under.

The trio is tied for fourth with three other players, two shots behind Army West Point's John Heckel Jr., who leads the tournament at 3-under.

As a team, the Greyhounds shot 1-under 279 and were the only team under par on Friday at the Bucknell Golf Club. They are two shots in front of Army West Point and four up on the host Bison.

Roman was 1-over for the day when he got to the 14th hole, but he birdied that and the next two holes to get into red numbers for the day.

Rangel was 2-under on the course's front nine, and he then had a bogey on 14 with eight pars on the other back-nine holes to finish at 1-under.

Spaulding got to 2-under, as well, with a birdie on the 16th, but he bogeyed the final hole of the day and finished 1-under.

Mike Crowley and Garrett Kessler finished the day at 2-over 72 for Loyola, and Dustin Stocksdale shot 6-over 76 to round out the Greyhounds' play.

The second round will start an hour late on Saturday due to rain forecasted overnight and in the morning. The first tee times will go off at 9 a.m. with Loyola players in the final five groups starting at 11 a.m.
