Lauren Spence set a new standard for career wins by a goalkeeper since
Jen Adams has been head coach at Loyola University Maryland on Saturday, and the Greyhounds led wire-to-wire in the win over Lafayette College, 17-4, on Saturday afternoon in a Patriot League matchup.
Lauren Spence now has 46 career wins, passing Kerry Stoothoff ('09-'12) for most wins by a goalkeeper since Adams became head coach in 2009.
In the first quarter,
Chase Boyle reached the 250 career points mark as well as eclipsing the 400 career draw control mark.
Georgia Latch finished the day with eight points (five goals, three assists) while
Elisa Faklaris had five points (three goals, two assists), and
Chase Boyle and
Gabby Stapleton each had four points (three goals, one assist) each.
Loyola controlled the pace in the first half, as Boyle opened the scoring with a goal just over a minute into the game, as she scored on a free-position shot.
Stapleton and Latch combined for the next five goals in the first quarter, as Stapleton scored a hat trick in the first quarter, while Latch had two goals and two assists in the opening quarter, as the Greyhounds (9-5 overall, 6-0 Patriot League) led 6-0 after the first quarter.
Latch continued her strong first half with a free-position goal with 11:58 remaining in the first half, as Loyola led 7-0.
Elisa and
Mim Suares-Jury both added goals midway through the second quarter, as Loyola entered halftime with a 9-0 lead.
Lafayette scored their first goal of the game early in the third quarter, as they took advantage of their player-up opportunity, as Haleih Albrecht scored for the Leopards (5-7 overall, 1-4 Patriot League).
Loyola responded with a 5-0 run, as they jumped out to a 14-1 lead to close out the third quarter. During the run, Latch and Boyle scored two goals, while Faklaris scored her second of the day.
Lafayette and Loyola alternated goals in the fourth quarter, as Faklaris,
Anna Kaplan, and
Lauren Lam scored in the fourth for Loyola, as they Greyhounds won 17-4.
Loyola once again controlled the draw circle, as they held the edge, 22-2.
Chase Boyle had 11 draws, while
Georgia Latch had 10 draws, a career-best.
Loyola out shot Lafayette 44-14 on the afternoon, and held the Leopards to 10 shots on goal.
Lauren Spence had six saves in the first half as she shutout the Leopards in the opening half.
Loyola continues Patriot League play next Saturday as they will travel to Boston to face the Terriers at noon.
