SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team captured a one-point victory, 4-3, over host Colgate Unviersity on Saturday, but the Greyhounds men were swept by the Raiders, 4-0, indoors at the Drumlines Tennis Center.
Mia Matriccino scored the clinching point for the Loyola women in the 4-3 win.
She held off Addie Eklund for a 7-6 (4) in the No. 4 singles first set, and she closed the victory with a 6-2 win in the second.
Lauren Manwiller was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Anya Kunda at No. 2 singles, and
Elena Hartley downed Carina Cristobal, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3.
The Greyhounds came into singles play with a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches.
Manwiller and
Emma Roeck got by Amelia Galin and Avery Isaac, 7-6 (4) at No. 1, and
Emi Shivkumar teamed with
Jocelyn Assael for a 6-2 win at NO. 3 against Eklund and Rebecca Hess.
Cristobal and Eliza Podlas were 6-3 winners against
Jessica Bodewes and
Christine Richiez at No. 2 doubles.
In the other singles, matches, Galin beat Richiez, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1, and Hess was a 6-2, 6-4 winner against Bodewes at No. 5. Podlas topped Shivkumar, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6.
Colgate won three singles matches to clinch the team victory with three more singles matches unfinished.
Benito Vlassis got past
Noah Castillo, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, and Lochlan Seth was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over
George Cavo at No. 2. Tim Viding defeated
Jorge Quintana, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.
Loyola's Castillo and
Cristian Pemueller were 6-1 winners over Vlassis and Seth at No. 1 doubles, but Aidan Chung paired with Viding for a 6-3 victory at No. 2 against
Ryan Boland and Quintana, and Parker McGowan and Jerome Falcon defeated Cavo and
Nick Lawliss, 7-5, at No. 3.
