The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds will be back on the road Thursday night, as they will travel to face the William and Mary Tribe. 
  • This will be the sixth meeting between the two programs, with William and Mary holding a 4-1 edge over Loyola. 
  • The last meeting between the two programs came back in 2010, where the Tribe won 5-0.          

Quick Hits
  • The Greyhounds are 4-2 in their last six regular season home openers. 
  • In their regular season home opener last season, Loyola lost 2-1 to Dayton at home. Senior Elizabeth Gallagher scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds in the loss. 
  • In the month of August, the Greyhounds are 10-8-1 since the beginning of the 2021 season. 

Greyhounds at Home
  • The Greyhounds posted another winning record at home during the 2024 season, tallying a 6-2-3 record at Ridley last season. 
  • Over the last five seasons, Loyola has a 24-12-7 record at home. 
  • Last season, Loyola outscored opponents 15-9 this season at Ridley. Loyola scored at least one goal in every home game last season, including a season-high three goals against Northern Colorado, Colgate, and Army. 
  • Nine wins at home in 2023 season is tied for the second most wins at home in a single-season, tying with 2005 when they finished 9-0 at home. The most wins at home came in 1996 when the Greyhounds went 11-0-1 at home. 

Key Returners
  • The Greyhounds enter the 2025 returning seven of their eleven primary starters from a season ago. 
  • Brigid Mulholland returns in goal for Loyola after playing every minute in goal for the Greyhounds during the 2024 season. She posed a 1.06 GAA, a 0.756 save percentage, while tallying 62 saves on the season. She also had seven shutouts in her first full season in goal. 
  • Zoe Willis returns to anchor the Greyhounds back line, as she was named to the Patriot League Preseason All-League team. Willis recorded two goals and a assist on the season, while leading all field players in minutes played on the season (1,665). 
  • Willis is joined by Payton Hurley and Riley Kennel on the right and left back spots. Hurley and Kennel ranked towards the top in minutes played on the Greyhounds last season. Nele Raap is back with Loyola this season but will miss the season due to injury. 
  • Asma Merzougui and Malia Tarazon return in the attack for the Greyhounds in 2025. Tarazon was tied for third on the team in assists last season (4), while Merzougui was third on the team in points (7) last season. Both players will look to boost the Greyhounds attack and build on a strong 2024 season. 

Scouting William and Mary
  • The Tribe come into the matchup with a 0-1-1 record on the season, drawing against George Mason in the season opener and losing 1-0 to Old Dominon on Sunday.
  • Lindsay Wilson scored the lone goal this season in the season opener for the Tribe, scoring in the 75th minute to force a draw. 
  • The Tribe have b een outshot 16-14 on the season through two games this season, including being outshot 10-6 against Old Dominion. 
  • In goal, Gwen Doughty has played every minute over two games, tallying a 0.667 save percentage, a 1.00 GAA and four saves thus far. 
  • William and Mary was picked to finish in thrid place in the CAA South, receiving 41 points and two first place votes in the poll. They finished behind Elon and Charleston in the Poll. 
  • The Tribe's Ivey Crain was named to the Preseason All-CAA Team, as Crain led the team with seven goals last season. 

Quick Notes
  • The 2025 season will be the 13th season the Greyhounds have been in the Patriot League, going 34-45-24 during that span, reaching the Patriot League Championships in six straight seasons, which includes four trips to the Patriot League Semifinals. 
  • This is Head Coach Joe Mallia's second stint at the helm with the Greyhounds. During his first stint, Mallia went 87-45-9 (54-4-5, MAAC), Winning the MAAC Regular-Season Championship four times, and the MAAC Tournament Championship three times.
  • In his four season's back at the helm, Mallia has gone 41-33-19. 
  • The Greyhounds have gone 67-45-20 at home since the opening of Ridley Athletic Complex. 
  • Five ties last season tied a program high, which also happened in 2007 and 2015.

Recipe for Success 
  • The Greyhounds were 8-1-3 last season when they scored the first goal.
  • Seven different players recorded at least one assist last season, including three players with at least three assists each. 
  • The Greyhounds have won 28 of the last 32 games in which they have scored two goals or more, which dates back to Sept. 6, 2018. Loyola was 5-1 when scoring multiple goals last season.
  • The Greyhounds are 31-2-6 when scoring first and 22-1-2 when leading at halftime since the beginning of the 2022 season.
  • Loyola was a second half team during the 2024 season, as they were 4-3-3 when tied at halftime.

O Captain, My Captain 
  • Malia Tarazon was named the team captain for the 2025 season. 
  • Tarazon, a senior forward from Oxnard, California, has appeared in 47 games for the Greyhounds, starting in 22 games. 
  • She had her best season yet last year, starting in 16 of 19 games, while recording one goal and a career-best four assists. 
  • She recorded a goal in the regular season finale win against American, before assisting a goal in the Patriot League Quarterfinal win over Colgate.

Shoes To Fill
  • Loyola will have big shoes to fill in the attack, as they will look to replace the production from Baylee DeSmit, as well the midfield production from Liz Gallagher and Olivia Quaranta
  • DeSmit, who now plays for Sporting Jax of the USL, scored 16 goals, while adding five assists last season. Gallagher had two goals and a team-high six assists, while Quaranta had one goal and four assists.
  • Combined, the trio accounted for 73 percent of the teams goals and 65 percent of the teams' points.

Newcomers
  • The Greyhounds welcomed 11 newcomers to the 2025 roster, featuring five transfers and six freshman. 
  • Goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer transferred to Loyola after two seasons at Saint Leo, and is from Backnang Germany. Also in goal freshman Gracyn Lee-Torchiano joins Loyola from Philadelphia.
  • In the back line, Kaleigh Darby joins the Greyhounds from William Smith College after two seasons, as she is joined by freshman Eva McGorian from Melbourne, Austrailia. 
  • In the midfield, the Greyhounds brought in transfers Reagan Mallia (West Virginia), Brigid McElderry (Samford), and Carlin Costell (Troy). They also brought in freshman Anna Hegarty from Trim, Ireland.
  • At the top of the attack, Loyola welcomed freshman forwards Taryn Buckley (Ontario, Canada), Savannah Manset (Wilmington, North Carolina), and Rylie Van Wingerden (Randolph, New Jersey).

Non-Conference Outlook
  • The Greyhounds opened the regular season with a 1-1 draw at Florida Atlantic on August 14th. 
  • They then returned to Baltimore for thier home opener against Saint Peter's, where they downed the Peacocks 2-0. Loyola then heads down to William and Mary for a matchup on August 21. 
  • Loyola returns home for a two-game homestand, as they will host Princeton on August 24, before hosting VCU on August 28. 
  • They will then head to Hofstra to face the Pride on September 6. 
  • To close out  non-conference play, the Greyhounds will host George Mason on September 11, before facing George Washington on September 14. 
  • Loyola opens Patriot League play on September 20 when they host Holy Cross at 1:00 PM.
