Baltimore — Loyola University Maryland's attack roared to life in the opening half Tuesday night, as the Greyhounds struck for three goals in the first 40 minutes, as they battled Saint Francis to a 3-3 draw at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Greyhounds (1-3-1) wasted little time getting on the board. Senior Charlie Herley opened the scoring in the fifth minute, finishing a setup from a corner from Jordy Luchies. Just eight minutes later, defender Jack Endacott doubled the lead off feeds from Eddie Smith and Luchies, who orchestrated Loyola's offense throughout the half.
After Saint Francis (0-4-1) pulled one back in the 22nd minute, the Greyhounds answered with a another header off of a corner kick, as Chris Ogor scored his first career goal in the 40th, again assisted by Luchies. The junior captain tallied three first-half assists, the most by a Greyhound in a single game since Gabriel Carlsson did so on August 25, 2017.
Saint Francis clawed back with a goal just before halftime, as Loyola led 3-2 at halftime.
Richie Nichols was shown a straight red card in the 78th minute, as Loyola played the last 12 minutes a player down. After giving up a penalty kick in the 81st minute, Dylan Van der Walt made a diving save, but the Red Flash scored off of the rebound.
Despite being outshot 10-8, the Greyhounds won the edge in corner kicks, drawing six corners on the night.
Van der Walt saw his first action of the season after missing the first four games due to injury, as he tallied three saves in the second half.
The Greyhounds return to action September 13 when they open Patriot League play, as they travel to face Lehigh in their conference opener.
