The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds host American University under the lights on Friday night at 6 o'clock to open home conference play. 
  • This will be the 57th meeting between the two programs, with Loyola holding a 31-17-8 edge. 
  • The teams faced off twice last season, as American won 2-0 in the regular season, while also advancing in the Patriot League Tournament, as they won on PK's, 5-4, to advance to the Semifinals.

  • In the back line, Luchies returns with Charlie Herley, Chris Ogor, and Oscar Halls, all who started at least 13 games last season. 
  • In the midfield, Richie Nichols returns for his final season, joined by Ben Schouten, who aims to make a big step in the Greyhounds midfield this season.
  • Sophomore's Eddie Smith and Tyler Flynn will also look to build off of their strong freshman campaign's.

  • Luchies enters his final collegiate season as one of the Greyhounds' captains, joined by Richie Nichols. 
  • Luchies has played in 63 career games, starting in 61 of those games, as he is the lone remaining player from Loyola's 2021 Patriot League Championship team. 
  • Through his 63 games, Luchies has scored five goals and recorded ten assists from the Greyhounds back line. 
  • Luchies was the 2024 Patriot League Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year and is a Two-Time First Team All-Patriot League honoree.

  • The Eagles come into the matchup with a 1-4-1 (1-0) record on the season and are coming off of a 1-0 win over Colgate on Saturday. 
  • Prior to the win, the Eagles' lone tie came against then No. 1 and reigning national champion Vermont on August 29, 1-1. 
  • Troy Elgersma leads the team with a pair of goals on the season, while four other players have one goal on the season. 
  • Moad Ezzahir leads the team with two assists this season, while five other players have one assist this season.
  • In goal, Matthew Tibbetts has started in five games this season, tallying a 0.731 save percentage, 19 saves, and a 1.40 GAA. Evan Tubbs has one start in goal, tallying two saves and allowing two goals in the start.
  • American has gone 0-4 on the road this season, averaging one goal per game in each road game this season.
  • Troy Elgersma was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year entering the season, as he led the conference in assists with 7 in 2024.
