ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Loyola University Maryland golf will return to the Evergreen campus tonight with goat status after winning The Goat hosted by Navy on Sunday, securing a five-stroke win in the 16-team field.
Three Greyhounds –
Diego Neira (T-4th),
Eli Spaulding (9
th) and
Liam Moloney (T-10
th) – finished in the top 10 of the individual standings, and all five of Loyola's players were in the top 25 of the event.
Loyola shot 1-over 285 as a team on Sunday to finish 5-over 858 in the 54-hole tournament, five strokes than the host Midshipmen on their home course, the Naval Academy Golf Club.
Seton Hall was third at 14-over, while Connecticut (+19) and William and Mary (+25) rounded out the top five.
Neira made his Loyola debut at the event and finished tied for fourth. He shot even-par 71 on Sunday for a three-round total of 1-over.
Spaulding birdied the first two holes on Sunday and three of the opening six. He finished the day 1-over and was solo ninth at 2-over.
Moloney had Loyola's best round of the final 18, shooting 1-under 70 for a three-round 3-over 216 to tie for 10
th.
Gustavo Rangel matched Spaulding's final-round 1-over 72 and tied for 24
th, while
Jackson Roman tied for 22
nd overall.
Loyola will continue its season in two weeks when it hosts the Hamptons Intercollegiate at Maidstone Club in East Hampton, New York, October 6-7.
