The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds are back at Ridley on Saturday afternoon, as they will host the Holy Cross Crusaders at 1:00 PM. 
  • This will be the 12th meeting between the two programs, with Loyola holding the 7-4 edge, including 4-1 over the last five games. 
  • In last years' matchup, the Greyhounds scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute to escape Worcester, Massachusets with the win.

  • The Greyhounds entered the season picked to finish in fourth place in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, earning 54 points in the poll.
  • Loyola finished the 2024 season in sixth place in the Patriot League, losing to American in penalty kicks 5-4, in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
  • Graduate defender Jordy Luchies was named to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team for the Greyhounds.

Key Returners
  • The Greyhounds will have a lot of new faces in 2025, as they feature 13 new players on the roster.
  • Dylan Van der Walt, who started every game in goal last season, returns for the Greyhounds and looks to return to his form from the 2023 season. 
  • In the back line, Luchies returns with Charlie Herley, Chris Ogor, and Oscar Halls, all who started at least 13 games last season. 
  • In the midfield, Richie Nichols returns for his final season, joined by Ben Schouten, who aims to make a big step in the Greyhounds midfield this season.
  • Sophomore's Eddie Smith and Tyler Flynn will also look to build off of their strong freshman campaign's.

More On Luchies
  • Luchies enters his final collegiate season as one of the Greyhounds' captains, joined by Richie Nichols
  • Luchies has played in 65 career games, starting in 63 of those games, as he is the lone remaining player from Loyola's 2021 Patriot League Championship team. 
  • Through his 63 games, Luchies has scored five goals and recorded ten assists from the Greyhounds back line. 
  • Luchies was the 2024 Patriot League Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year and is a Two-Time First Team All-Patriot League honoree. 

Scouting Holy Cross
  • The Crusaders come into the matchup with a 3-3-3 (0-0-2) record on the season, as they are coming off of a 3-2 win over Rhode Island on Tuesday.
  • The Crusaders tied Navy, 1-1, and Lafayete, 0-0, in their first two Patriot League games this season. 
  • After starting the season 0-3-1, Holy Cross is 3-0-2 over their last five matches. 
  • Thomas Mancuso leads the team and is tied for second in the Patriot League with three goals this season, while Kevin Cull is tied for the most assists (4) this season.
  • Archie Hatcher is also tied for the team lead in points, as he has two goals and two assists this season. 
  • In goal, Mateo Buyu has played every minute, as he has a 0.722 save percentage, 26 saves, and a 1.11 GAA. 
  • Holy Cross is tied for the third most goals scored so far this season, totaling 11 goals through 9 games. They also rank seventh in goals allowed (10) in the Patriot League this year. 
  • In the Preseason Patriot League poll, the Crusaders were picked to finish in last, receiving only 11 points in the poll.

  • The Greyhounds are 49-17-15 in the Patriot League since the beginning of the 2016 season. 
  • In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.
  • The Greyhounds are 19-1-4 since the beginning of the 2021 season when scoring multiple goals. They are also 18-1-2 when leading at halftime and 17-6-13 when they out shoot opponents since the beginning of 2021. 
  • When opponents score first this season, when trailing at halftime, and when recording fewer corner kicks, Loyola is 0-5. 
  • Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Loyola is 8-13-12 in the month of September.
  • Loyola is 1-3-1 in Patriot League openers since 2021.

Non-Conference Play
  • Over the past five seasons (excluding the 2020 season), the Greyhounds are 14-23-17 in non-conference play. 
  • Loyola has played all of their non-conference foes at least once before, and will face a familiar foe Iona, whom the Greyhounds were in the MAAC with prior to joining the Patriot League. 
  • During the 2024 season, the Greyhounds went 1-4-2 in non-conference play. Of their four losses, three of them came to ranked opponents.
  • Five of Loyola's eight non-conference games will be on the road this season, including five of their last six non-conference games being on the road.

Eyes On The Defense
  • After a uncharacteristic 2024 season where the Greyhounds were tied for the most goals allowed in the Patriot League, Loyola looks to get back to their ways of having one of the best defense's in the Patriot League. 
  • Loyola allowed the fewest goals in the Patriot League in the 2021 and 2023 seasons, while ranking tied for third in goals allowed in 2022. .
  • Two-time Patriot League First Team Selection Jordy Luchies and 2023 Rookie of the Year Chris Ogor return, while they will be joined by seniors Curtis Wagner, and Charlie Herley. Eddie Smith, Brandon Meminger, Oscar Halls, and Freshman Jack Endacott will all look to boost the Greyhounds defense.
