BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland volleyball took a 22-21 lead in the first set against visiting American University on Sunday afternoon, but the Eagles came back to win the opener and went on to a 26-24, 25-14, 25-21 Patriot League win in Reitz Arena.
Riley Hamilton put away a kill to give the Greyhounds that one-point edge, their first lead since it was 7-6, but Sophie Dufour came back with a sideout kill for the Eagles.
Prinzez Zeck made it 24-22 American with a kill from the middle, but a Zeck attack error and a
Kacy Sekunda kill for Loyola tied the score at 24-24.
American closed out the frame with points on a Greyhounds service and attack errors.
The Eagles went on to hit .567 in the second set and .357 in the third during the win.
Sekunda led Loyola with 10 kills, while
Addie Huber had 10 digs and
Gabi Verdicchio added 16 assists.
The Greyhounds will go on the road for the first time during conference play, traveling to face Lafayette and Bucknell next weekend.
