HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team leaned on their defense and steady goalkeeping to walk away from Captains Field with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Hofstra on Saturday afternoon
The Greyhounds (3-1-2) weathered a spirited first half from the Pride, as they led 3-0 in shots before turning the tide after halftime. Loyola generated all six of its shots in the second half, with forwards Savannah Manset and Malia Tarazon leading a late surge that kept Hofstra under pressure
Senior goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer anchored Loyola's back line with three saves, including key stops in both halves, to earn her second shutout of the season. The Greyhounds' defensive core of Zoe Willis, Renee Wanzor, and Riley Kennel logged heavy minutes to limit Hofstra to just four shots overall
Tarazon and freshman Taryn Buckley nearly found a winner in the closing minutes, forcing Hofstra keeper Lilly Bailey into action, but could not find the winning goal.
Possession was nearly even throughout the game, as Loyola outshot Hofstra 6-4 on the afternoon, as teams combined for four shots on goal in the game.
Loyola returns to Ridley on September 11, as they will host George Mason, as non-conference play winds down.
