FDU Gets Past Volleyball In Tournament Finale

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Fairleigh Dickinson rallied after a second-set loss to win the final two frames on Saturday, topping Loyola University Maryland volleyball, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, in the Greyhounds' final match at the Chick-fil-A Robinson Classic.

Morgan Crawford and Ava Nepkin each had 11 kills for the Greyhounds, and Kacy Sekunda added 15 to go with 16 assists and seven digs.

Loyola had a 23-22 first-set lead before the Knights scored two in a row to gain set-point. Sekunda put away two kills off Gabi Verdicchio assists, however, and Loyola was in position to take the set, leading 25-24.

Fairleigh Dickinson, however, came back two-straight kills from Kylie Nott and then used a Loyola hitting error to win the set.

Loyola led by five, 22-17, in the second set before the Knights got within a pair after three-consecutive points, but the Greyhounds pulled away to even the match at one set each.

The Greyhounds hit .057 in the final two sets, however, and Fairleigh Dickinson finished with the victory.

Addie Huber had a team-high 20 digs, and Leah Hunter added 11 for Loyola. Crawford and Elsie Afful both had four total blocks, and three Greyhounds – Verdicchio, Huber and Riley Hamilton – each tallied two aces.

Loyola will make its home debut next Friday, September 12, when it hosts Georgetown in a 6 p.m. match in Reitz Arena.
