LEWISBURG, PA -- Loyola University Maryland had a slow start offensively in the first half, as Bucknell University used their fast start to carry them to a wire-to-wire 54-45 win on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action.
Cristina Garcia finished the game with a team-high nine points off the bench, while
Lex Therien and
Olivia Shaughnessy had eight and seven points respectively. Therien also led the team with six rebounds on the day.
Every player scored for Loyola, as they tallied 27 bench points on the afternoon.
Bucknell (6-13 overall, 2-6 Patriot League) opened the first half with a big advantage, heading into the half with a 22-10 lead, as both teams shot under 25 percent from the floor in the opening half.
The Bison carried their momentum in the third quarter, holding Loyola (8-11 overall, 4-4 Patriot League) to 21.4 percent shooting in the quarter, as they led 34-22 entering the fourth.
In the fourth, Loyola managed to apply pressure to the Bisoin, forcing five turnovers in the quarter, as they managed to cut the deficit down to eight points, but Bucknell held Loyola at bay, holding on for the 54-45 win.
Reese Zemitis led Bucknell with 15 points, while Isabella Casey added 13 points, and Tuana Coskun had 10 points.
Loyola returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to face American at 6:00 PM.
