Third Quarter Lafayette Run Out-Paces Women's Basketball

EASTON, Pa. — Lex Therien scored 20 points to lead the Greyhounds and Loyola University Maryland showed fight throughout, but the Greyhounds came up short in a 63-52 loss at Lafayette College on Saturday afternoon.

Loyola (5-8, 1-1 Patriot League) trailed for most of the game yet continued to chip away behind balanced scoring and defensive effort, cutting a 20-point third-quarter deficit to nine points in the fourth quarter. Despite the second half rally, Lafayette held off Loyola late in the fourth for the home win.

Therien finished 7 of 13 from the field and added nine rebounds to lead Loyola. Amandine Amorich chipped in 10 points, while Sydney Bass added eight points off the bench. 

Lafayette opened the game with a strong shooting performance, knocking down four three's in the opening quarter to take the early lead. They continued their strong shooting, as they had six three's in the first half, as they led 34-23 at the half.

The Leopards continued their strong shooting to start the second half, as they led by as many as 20 points in the second half, but Loyola managed to chip away at the Leopards' lead, as they cut it down to nine points after a Sydney Bass three early in the fourth quarter. From there, the Greyhounds managed to get a few defensive stops, but could not capitalize on the offensive end. 

Loyola also held an edge in bench scoring, getting 13 points from its reserves while limiting Lafayette's bench scoreless.

Lafayette (5-8, 1-1) was led by Haylie Adamski's 24 points, while the Leopards knocked down 11 3-pointers in the win..

Loyola returns home on Wednesday as they will host Army West Point at 7 pm.
