Men’s Basketball Gets Overtime Road Win At Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Braeden Speed and Jacob Theodosiou scored 19 and 16 points, respectively, and the duo had eight of Loyola University Maryland's 11 in overtime Wednesday night, helping the Greyhounds pick up an 84-76 road victory at the U.S. Military Academy.

A Speed layup with 3:04 left in the extra period put Loyola (5-11 overall, 1-2 Patriot League) up five, 78-73, and after Army West Point (7-9, 1-2) cut its deficit to a pair, Theodosiou had an odd three-point play to give the Greyhounds another five-point cushion.

He was fouled going to the basket and made the first of two free throws. His second from the foul line went off the right side of the iron, but Theodosiou came untouched down the right side of the lane to get his own rebound and lay in a basket to make it 81-76.

Army West Point misfired on a 3-point attempt, and Speed pulled down the defensive rebound before being fouled. He made both free throws, and Sebastien Emenalo knocked down one of two with 10 seconds left to provide the final margin.

Speed and Theodosiou combined for 35 points, and two Loyola freshmen came off the bench to score 20 points each. Emmett Adair had eight of his 10 before halftime, and Emenalo set career-highs with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Troy Cicero Jr. added nine points, Jonas Sirtautas scored eight and Tyson Commander had seven in his first start of the season.

Loyola led by seven, 64-57, after a Theodosiou basket with 6:35 left in regulation, but Army West Point got within two, 69-67, on a Joshua Eli free throw with 57 ticks left.

Theodosiou converted both free throws on a one-and-one with 27 ticks left, and Loyola was up four. Eli, however, responded with a three for the Black Knights.

Adair was fouled on the inbound pass, and he made both foul shots to provide the Greyhounds a 73-70 lead with nine seconds on the clock, but after an Army West Point timeout, Ryan Curry made a leaning three with 0.6 seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Curry matched Speed for game-high honors with 19 points.

Speed just missed a double-double, tying his career-high with nine rebounds. Theodosiou and Speed both had four assists for the Greyhounds.

Loyola will remain on the road for its next game, a Saturday, January 10 contest at Bucknell University slated for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
