BALTIMORE — Tyler Flynn scored his third goal of the season, but Loyola Maryland's late comeback bid came up short Saturday as Boston University held on for a 2-1 victory at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Greyhounds (2-8-1, 1-2-1 Patriot League) controlled much of the first half offensively, outshooting the Terriers 8-3 and putting three shots on goal. Boston University goalkeeper Ben Alexander made three saves to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
Jeremiah McGuire created several opportunities for Loyola in the opening 45 minutes, putting two shots on target, but Alexander turned both away. Lukas Cortes also tested the Boston University goalkeeper with a shot on goal as the Greyhounds continued to pressure the Terriers.
Boston University (5-2-3, 4-0) broke through in the 51st minute when Ben Bagshaw scored his first goal of the season off assists from Ryan Ghajar and Mateo Turletti.
The Terriers doubled their advantage in the 61st minute when Andrea Di Blasio scored his sixth goal of the season, with Bagshaw and Pharis Petrica providing the assists.
Loyola quickly answered.
Flynn pulled the Greyhounds within one in the 72nd minute, finishing a play created by McGuire and Jack Endacott. The goal energized Loyola, which continued to push forward during the closing stages.
The Greyhounds earned three corner kicks in the second half and generated several chances after Flynn's goal. Flynn had another opportunity in the 81st minute, while Cesare D'Amico fired a shot wide in the 86th minute.
Loyola finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots and earned seven corner kicks to Boston University's three. The Greyhounds also put four shots on target.
