Loyola women's tennis fell 5-2 at George Washington on Friday afternoon, as the Colonials claimed the doubles point and won four of six singles matches to secure the non-conference victory.
George Washington took an early 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Madison Lee and Karen Verduzco edged Loyola's
Emma Roeck and
Christine Richiez, 6-4. The Colonials followed with a win at No. 2, where Solange Skeene and Victoria Sasinka defeated
Emi Shivkumar and
Elena Hartley, 6-2.
Loyola earned its lone doubles victory at No. 3, as
Mia Matriccino and
Victoria Epps cruised past Devika Manu and Alexandra Lindqvist, 6-1, but it was not enough to deny George Washington the doubles point.
In singles play, Loyola picked up wins at the middle of the lineup. Matriccino earned a straight-sets victory at No. 2, defeating Lee, 6-4, 7-6 (1). Roeck followed with a hard-fought win at No. 4, outlasting Lindqvist in a match decided by a super tiebreaker, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6.
George Washington clinched the match with wins across the remaining courts. At No. 1, Skeene defeated Richiez, 6-1, 6-2, while Sasinka earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Hartley at No. 3. Verduzco added a straight-sets win at No. 5 against Epps, 6-4, 6-3, and Manu closed the scoring with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Shivkumar at No. 6.
