WEST POINT, N.Y. — Lauren Perfetto scored a career-high three goals and Loyola University Maryland rallied with a strong second-half push, but Army West Point's big first half lead was too much to overcome in a 18-10 loss Saturday at Michie Stadium.
Perfetto led the Greyhounds (4-4 overall, 1-1 Patriot League) with three goals, while Morgan Ruhnke, Mim Suares-Jury and Elisa Faklaris each scored twice. Avery Ruhnke added a goal as Loyola finished with 10 goals on 29 shots.
Army (5-2, 2-0) jumped ahead early, scoring the first four goals of the game and building a 7-1 lead by the end of the opening quarter.
Loyola began to settle in during the second period. Morgan Ruhnke scored off an assist from Morgan Quade, and Perfetto added two goals late in the quarter to trim the deficit to 11-4 heading into halftime.
The Greyhounds carried that momentum into the third. Morgan Ruhnke scored on a free-position attempt before Suares-Jury and Faklaris struck 22 seconds apart, bringing Loyola within 12-7 midway through the period.
Army answered with a pair of goals to regain control, but Loyola continued to find offense in the fourth quarter. Avery Ruhnke scored off an assist from Olivia Blanding, and later Perfetto and Faklaris added goals as the Greyhounds kept pressure on the Black Knights.
Quade paced Loyola with three assists while Blanding added two helpers. Suares-Jury also contributed an assist to go with her two goals and a team-high 10 draw controls.
Loyola goaltender Makenzie Butler made four saves in goal.
Brigid Duffy led Army with six goals, while Allison Reilly finished with three goals and five assists. Lindsey Serafine made 10 saves in goal for the Black Knights.
Loyola will return to Ridley on Wednesday evening, as they will host local foe Towson at 7:00 PM.
