BALTIMORE — Loyola University Maryland's women's tennis team earned a hard‑fought 4–3 victory over Bucknell on Saturday at the McClure Tennis Center, while the Greyhounds' men's team fell 7–0 in its matchup with the Bison.
Loyola's women (1–0) swept all three doubles courts to take the opening point. Christine Richiez and Emma Roeck rolled past Abby Platt and Riley Jennings 6–1 at No. 1, while Emi Shivkumar and Elena Hartley clinched No. 2 with a 7–5 win over Jaycie Mair and Mirra Manolov. At No. 3, Victoria Epps and Mia Matriccino edged Natalie Devraj and Cameron King 7–6 to complete the sweep.
Richiez opened singles with a three‑set win over Platt, 6–1, 3–6, 6–2, and Hartley followed with a dominant 6–1, 6–1 victory over Jennings at No. 2. Roeck delivered the deciding point at No. 5, defeating King 7–6 (5), 6–4.
Bucknell earned wins at the middle and bottom of the lineup. Torri Allen topped Matriccino 4–6, 6–2, 6–1 at No. 3, Manolov beat Epps 2–6, 6–2, 6–1 at No. 4, and Devraj outlasted Shivkumar 6–7 (4), 6–3, 10–7 at No. 6.
On the men's side, Bucknell swept all three doubles courts and won all six singles matches.
Brendan McDonald and Amar Tahirovic defeated Ryan Gill and Nick Lawliss 6–2 at No. 1 doubles, followed by a 6–3 win from Will Robinson and Nelson Alapi over Petter Hagen and Louis Moldenhauer at No. 2. At No. 3, Adam Stavrakas and Oscar Bain edged Blake Edwards and Harry Zeiders 7–6.
In singles, Tahirovic beat Hagen 6–3, 6–4 at No. 1, and Kilmer defeated Moldenhauer by the same score at No. 2. Stavrakas topped Gill 6–0, 6–1 at No. 3, and Bain added a 6–0, 6–2 win over Edwards at No. 4. McDonald beat Lawliss 6–2, 6–2 at No. 5, and Robinson closed out the match with a 7–5, 6–2 victory over Alejandro Rotundo at No. 6.
Men's tennis returns to action on Monday when they face Boston, while the women's tennis team returns on Wednesday against Morgan State.
