EASTON, Pa. — Lauren Perfetto scored a career-high five goals and seven points, as Loyola (Md.) used a dominant first quarter to roll past Lafayette 16-7 on Wednesday night.
The Greyhounds (9-4, 5-1 Patriot League) seized control early, scoring eight straight goals in the opening period to build an 8-2 lead and never looked back.
Perfetto led a balanced Loyola attack that featured five players with multiple goals. Elisa Faklaris added four goals, while Morgan Ruhnke and Emma Talago each scored twice. Morgan Quade orchestrated the offense with four assists to go along with two goals.
After Lafayette (4-7, 0-5) opened the scoring, Loyola responded with a decisive surge that fueled them the remainder of the game. The Greyhounds dominated draw controls 22-3 and outshot the Leopards 36-20, consistently generating quality looks.
Loyola extended its lead to 11-4 late in the second quarter behind goals from Quade, Talago and Faklaris, taking firm command into halftime.
The Leopards briefly chipped away in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 11-6, but Loyola quickly answered in the fourth. Quade and Perfetto sparked a five-goal closing run that pushed the margin back to double digits and sealed the victory.
Mim Suares-Jury contributed three assists and helped Loyola control possession throughout, while Mae Murphy led the draw unit with a game-high 16 draw controls.
Kennedy Buntrock made four saves in goal for Loyola, as the Greyhounds defense which forced 15 Lafayette turnovers and converted all 15 of its clear attempts.
Georgia Swarr led Lafayette with four goals.
Loyola returns to Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday, when they host the 13th-ranked Boston College Eagles.
