BALTIMORE – Two first-half goals by St. John's University spurred the Red Storm's offense in the 2026 season-opener to a 5-0 win over host Loyola University Maryland men's soccer on Thursday night at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Brage Birkelund Eie scored his first of two in the match in the ninth minute, converting from 10 yards out off a Xavi Abeijon assist to put St. John's on the board.
Birkelund Eie and Abeijon then assisted on an Andrew Porucznik goal in the 26th minute, helping the Red Storm lead, 2-0, at the midpoint.
Luca Fargnoli scored in the 52nd minute from Camron Boumsong, and Birkelund Eie tallied his brace, deflecting an Ivar Nå Aga shot into the goal in the 76th minute. Less than four minutes later, Aryeh Miller got his foot on a line drive corner by Zander Romero to net the Red Storm's fifth goal.
Nick Laffey led Loyola with two shots, but St. John's outshot the Greyhounds,17-6.
Loyola will be back in action Sunday, August 23, when it travels across the city to face UMBC at 6 p.m. in the Blake Elliott Cup.
