NEWARK, N.J. — Diogo Rebelo scored in the 65th minute for NJIT, as they held off Loyola University Maryland 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Rebelo broke the scoreless tie at 64:41, finishing a chance assisted by Jeremy Klinger and Zain Thompson. The goal was the Highlanders' only score of the night and proved to be the difference at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium.

Loyola goalkeeper Felix Huebner kept the Greyhounds within striking distance throughout the match, making seven saves. Huebner turned aside several dangerous NJIT opportunities, including three saves in the first half and four after halftime.

The Greyhounds had opportunities of their own but could not find the equalizer. Lukas Cortes put two shots toward the NJIT goal, including one saved by Andre Faerman in the 24th minute. Tyler Flynn also forced a save in the 55th minute, while Kristian Knudsen tested Faerman again in the 72nd.

Loyola generated six shots, with three on target, while NJIT finished with 22 shots and eight on goal. The Highlanders also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Despite the statistical disparity, Loyola remained within one goal after Rebelo's strike and continued to push for an equalizer. Nino Venezia had a shot go wide in the 71st minute before Knudsen's attempt was saved moments later.

Faerman finished with three saves to preserve the shutout for NJIT.
