Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw Against James Madison

BALTIMORE — Loyola University Maryland fought back from an early deficit and held James Madison to a 1-1 draw Sunday at Ridley Athletic Complex.

The Greyhounds (0-1-7) fell behind in the 18th minute when James Madison's Ginny Lackey scored off an assist from Bianca Raskin. Loyola responded less than 21 minutes later, with Leah Carter finding the back of the net in the 38th minute off an assist from Taryn Buckley to pull the Greyhounds even.

Neither team could find a decisive goal after halftime as Loyola's defense and goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer kept the Dukes off the scoreboard.

Goetzer made four saves, all coming in the second half, including stops on three shots from Lackey and another from Tali Rovner during a sustained James Madison attack. The Dukes finished with a 12-5 advantage in shots and a 64-36 edge in possession, but Loyola's defensive effort kept the match level.

Loyola created several opportunities of its own, with Savannah Manset recording three shots and Reagan Mallia adding a late attempt that went wide in the final minute.

The Greyhounds also earned two corner kicks, both in the opening half, and continued to battle despite James Madison's pressure throughout the second 45 minutes.

Loyola will open Patriot League play next weekend, when they travel to face Holy Cross.
