FOX CHAPEL, Pa. –
Eli Spaulding shot 4-under 67 in Monday's second round and is in sixth individually through 36 holes at 6-under to lead the Loyola University Maryland golf team at the RedHawk Invitational.
Spaulding opened his junior season with a double-bogey six on the Pittsburgh Field Club's 469-yard, par-4 12th hole, but he boxed only two numbers for the next 35 holes.
He got back to even par with birdies on the course's 15th and 16th holes, his fourth and fifth of the day, but a bogey on the 215-yard, par-3 18th hole him at 1-over through eight.
Spaulding posted three birdies over his last 11 holes of the first round and finished with a 2-under 69.
He bogeyed his first hole of the second round, again the 12th, which played as the course's fourth-hardest hole of the day on Monday. That was his last bogey of the day, however, as he went 5-under over the next 17 holes to finish the round of 67.
As a team, Loyola is tied for fifth at the 54-hole tournament that wraps up on Tuesday.
Jack Geyer and
Lorenzo Sanz are tied for 30th individually after shooting even-par 71s in the morning and matching round of 1-over 72 in the afternoon 18.
Liam Moloney and
Diego Neira both shot even-par, as well, in the first round. Moloney shot 2-over 73 in the afternoon and is tied for 46th, and Neira tied for 61st after shooting 6-over 77.
Zach Berger played as an individual for the Greyhounds and is tied for 79th at 14-over after 36 holes.
