WASHINGTON — Tyler Flynn scored his first goal of the season, and the Loyola Maryland men's soccer team battled back from a second-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against American on Saturday at Reeves Field.
The Greyhounds (1-6-1, 0-1-1 Patriot League) controlled the attacking chances throughout much of the match, outshooting the Eagles 11-4, including a 6-0 advantage in the opening 45 minutes. Loyola's offensive pressure, however, resulted in a single goal as both teams took a point from the conference matchup.
After a scoreless first half, American's Patryk Rojek opened the scoring in the 54th minute, converting a chance assisted by Henrick Boahen to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Loyola responded less than eight minutes later.
In the 62nd minute, Flynn found the back of the net off an assist from Eddie Smith, bringing the Greyhounds level at 1-1. The goal marked Flynn's first of the season and gave Loyola renewed momentum for the remainder of the match.
The Greyhounds continued to create opportunities, with Lukas Cortes, Tyler Tucker and Nino Venezia among those registering shots. American goalkeeper Evan Tubbs made one save, while Loyola goalkeeper Felix Huebner kept the Eagles from regaining the lead with three saves.
Loyola's defensive effort helped preserve the draw through the final whistle, despite American holding a 58% to 42% advantage in possession and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
