Matthew Simpson and
Lorenzo Sanz were two of three golfers to shoot under-par on Monday, finishing second and third, respectively, at the Maryland Individual Invitational.
Simpson, who was playing in his first collegiate event, birdied the University of Maryland Golf Course's 18th hole to finish his second round at 1-under 70 and claim a solo second place finish at 3-under overall for 36 holes.
Sanz tied for the best round of the afternoon's 18, shooting 3-under 68 to take third at 1-under 141.
Michael Asselta tied for 13th at the tournament, shooting 6-over with matching 3-over scores.
Dustin Stocksdale was a shot back and tied for 15th after a 1-over 72 in the final round.
Matt Carpentier finished 20th at 13-over.
