Biography

2019-2020 (Senior): Named to the All-Patriot League First Team and All-Defensive Team... Became the 10th player in Patriot League history to lead the conference in points per game in back-to-back years, finishing the season with a 19.9 points per game average… Made 29 starts and missed three games due to a pair of injuries… Did not score in two games when he was injured in the first halves of the contests and averaged 21.5 points in the other 27 games… Second on the team with 2.6 assists per game (75 total) and first in steals per game with 1.9 (56)… Was the only player in NCAA Division I to average 19.5 points, five rebounds, 1.8 steals and two assists per game during the season… In Patriot League history, only two players have had such numbers in more than one season, Lehigh’s C.J. McCollum and Kostecka… His 576 points tied for 10th in school single-season history… Wrapped up his career ranked third all-time at Loyola in points (1,751), a total good for eighth in Patriot League history… Had 56 steals as a senior to finish second all-time at Loyola and eighth in Patriot League history with 222…Additionally, he finished his career eighth at Loyola 3-pointers made (147), free throws made (400) and attempted (499)… Finished with 29 points, making all 11 of his free throws at American... Had 20 points and nine boards against Bucknell... Went 13 of 14 from the free-throw line and scored 21 against Navy...  Had 32 points against American... Scored 22 and had five assists at Army West Point... Returned to action against Boston University after missing the Lafayette game with an ankle sprain... Made 15 of 21 shots and had a career-high 37 points, becoming the 10th player in school history with 1,500-plus points, against Holy Cross... Earned his third Patriot League Player of the Week award of the year after the UMass Lowell and VCU games... Scored 30 and had eight rebounds, both game highs, against the Rams... Went for 19 in the second half and finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds versus UMass Lowell... Also had five assists, two blocks and four steals... Named Patriot League Player of the Week on Dec. 9... Had 25  points, six boards at Mount St. Mary’s after scoring 25 and had seven boards at Delaware State... Finished with 26 at Omaha... Scored 20 points against George Mason... Named Patriot League Player of the Week after scoring 31 points to go with five boards, six assists and four steals against Fairfield... 2018-2019 (Junior): Led the Patriot League in points and steals per game and was named to the All-Patriot League First Team and All-Defensive Team… Also became Loyola’s first NABC All-District XIII Second Team since 2012-2013 and its fifth player overall to earn All-NABC recognition… Averaged 21.3 points and 2.66 steals per game, figures that ranked 27th and eighth in NCAA Division I… Kostecka was the only player in NCAA Division I to have scored more than 625 points and post 80 or more steals last season, and he was one of only four to average 20-plus points and two-plus steals, joining Duke's Zion Williamson, Seton Hall's Myles Powell and Louisiana Monroe's Daishon Smith… In Patriot League historical context, Kostecka's numbers were achieved by only one other player since the conference's basketball inception in 1990-91, former Lehigh standout and current NBA All-Star C.J. McCollum… Kostecka and McCollum are the only Patriot League players to have averaged 20+ points, 4.5+ rebounds, 2.0+ steals and 2.0+ assists in a season; McCollum did it in both 2010-11 and 2011-12… During the season, became the 38th player in school history to score 1,000 points and quickly became one of 33 with 1,100 or more… His 682 points were second only to Andre Collins’ school-record of 731 in 2005-06, and his 85 steals were third in single-season history… Scored 13 or more points in 30 of the Greyhounds' 32 games... He had 17 outings with 21 or more points, 12 with 26 or higher and four with 30-plus… Scored a to-date career-high 32 points, going 5 of 9 from 3-point range and 11 of 17 from the field, at Army West Point... Also had a career-high seven steals... Named the Patriot League Player of the Week on February 18 after games against American and Lafayette... Scored 21 against the Leopards and made 13 of 20 shots and tied his career-high with 31 points in a win at American... Went 11 of 15 from the field and scored 25 at Colgate... Was two off his career-high with 29 points to go with five assists and five steals against Bucknell.. Had his second double-double of the year against Navy with 27 points and 10 rebounds... Went 11 of 12 at the free-throw line and scored 22 with four blocks and four steals against American... Grabbed five steals and had four assists with 13 points against Colgate... Had 26 points for the second game in a row to go with a career-high seven assists at Bucknell... Scored the last of his 26 points on a game-winning layup with two-tenths of a second left in overtime at Holy Cross... Also had four steals and eight rebounds against the Crusaders... Scored 29 points and had three steals against Boston University... Had five steals against Army West Point... Tallied 24 second-half points to finish with 29 total against Holy Cross in the Patriot League opener... Dropped 17 in the second half and had 27 total at No. 20 N.C. State to go with eight rebounds... Tallied 23 points at UMass Lowell... Made all four of his 3-pointers and scored 18 at Maryland... Put up a new career-high in points with 31 at Binghamton... Also had four assists, two blocks and two steals... Earned his second-straight Patriot League Player of the Week nod on December 1 after logging his first collegiate double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds against Mount St. Mary’s... Named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Nov. 26 after recording career-highs twice in a week... Had 30 on 10 of 18 from the floor, 4 of 8 from 3-point range, at Towson...  Earned Legends Classic All-Tournament Team honors after scoring 12 of his team-high 18 points in the second half against Hampton... Also had a team-high four assists and seven rebounds... Scored a career-high 23 points with a career-best 10 field-goals made at Detroit Mercy... Led Loyola with 17 points to go with four steals at St. John’s.


2017-2018 (Sophomore): Named to the Patriot League All-Defensive Team after finishing second in the conference in steals per game (2.1) and fourth in blocks (1.1)… Was 24th in NCAA Division I in steals per game… Averaged 11.0 points and 3.7 rebounds, as well… Played in 26 games and made 18 starts… His 29 blocked shots are tied for 19th in school single-season history and are the most by a guard all-time at Loyola… The 54 steals he totaled are tied for 12th in single-season history… Missed a four-game stretch from November 28-December 9 due to an ankle injury… Knocked down 3 of 5 shots from behind the arc to finish with 13 points int he Patriot League Quarterfinals at Bucknell (3/1)… Made 9 of 14 shots to score 20 points against Army West Point in the Patriot League First Round against Army West Point (2/27)... Also had a career-high five assists... Scored 14 points and had five rebounds with three blocks against Lehigh (2/21)... Had a team-high 14 points to go with three steals against Holy Cross (2/3)... Scored 18 points and had four assists, four steals and zero turnovers against Army West Point (1/27)... Finished with five steals, four assists and 12 points at Lehigh (1/24)... Four of the steals came on consecutive Mountain Hawk possessions with under five minutes to go in regulation... Had a career-high six steals to go with 11 points against Bucknell (1/17)... Finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals at American (1/11)... Scored 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting to go with six rebounds and three blocked shots against Boston U. (1/5)... Grabbed seven rebounds at Army West Point (1/2)... Scored 11 points, blocked two shots and had two steals at Memphis (12/23)... Had four blocks and three steals to go with eight points and four rebounds against Drexel (12/21) as he returned from an ankle injury after missing four games... Finished with 17 points against Goucher (11/21)... Scored 12 points and led Loyola with eight rebounds against Towson (11/17)... Opened the season with a career-high 22 points on 8 of 14 from the floor and 3 of 5 from 3-point range at Northwestern (11/10)... Also had three steals against the Wildcats.

2016-2017 (Freshman): Had a solid first season on the Greyhounds’ roster, playing in 29 games and starting 17… Finished fourth on the team in points per game (7.1)… Also averaged 2.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 steals per game… Finished as the team-leader in 3-point percentage (.386) after making 32-of-86 from behind the arc… Shot .470 from the field, a mark that was tops among Loyola backcourt players… Scored eight of his 11 points in the second half of the Patriot League Quarterfinals at Boston U. (3/2) and had a team-high three steals... Hit a go-ahead three with just over four minutes left in the Patriot League First Round game against Lafayette (2/28)... Scored 12 points on 5-of-9 from the field against Colgate (2/19)... Made all five of his field-goal attempts, including four 3-pointers, and went 6-of-8 from the line to score a season-high 20 points against Holy Cross (1/25)... Also had three assists and three steals... Scored 11 points and dished out three assists versus Navy (1/11)... Hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points to go with seven rebounds in a one-point win at Lehigh (1/5)... Missed two-straight games and three out of four due to injury but returned with eight points and a season-high three blocks against Lafayette (1/2)... Finished with 12 points and a season-high nine rebounds at Binghamton (12/10)... Scored eight points, had five boards and blocked two shots at Notre Dame (11/18)... Tallied 11 against Millersville (11/14)... Made his Loyola debut at Duquesne (11/11), garnering a starting role and scoring seven points.

Before Loyola: Lettered in basketball, golf and track and field at Clarksburg (Maryland) High School… Earned All-Maryland 4A/3A First Team honors from the Maryland Basketball Coaches Association as a senior in 2015-2016… Averaged 19.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists as a senior for the Coyotes… scored 11 or more points in every game of his senior season… Named The Sentinel’s Player of the Year as a senior… Named All-Met Honorable Mention by The Washington Post… Played in four all-star “main” games following the 2015-2016 campaign: the Capital Classic, Maryland Crab Ball, the BWW Roundball Classic and the Montgomery County Game… Earned All-Montgomery County honors from the Montgomery Gazette in 2014-2015 after averaging 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists… Led the Eagles to a 20-5 record as a junior and 21-9 mark as a senior… Team advanced to the regional final of the state tournament in 2016 where it fell in overtime… Played AAU for Team Takeover… Was an All-Montgomery County golfer at Clarksburg and finished second in high jump at the Maryland 4A/3A State Track and Field Championships with a leap of 6-4.

Personal: Andrew Edward Kostecka III… Son of Lana and Andy Kostecka… Has one sister, Laurie, who is a softball player at the University of Tampa…Grandfather, Andrew, Sr., is a member of the Georgetown University Athletics Hall of Fame where he played basketball… The eldest Andrew Kostecka also played for the Indianapolis Jets of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), one of the two leagues that merged to form the NBA in 1949… Completed more than 265 student service learning hours at Clarksburg… Four-year honor roll student with a weighted grade-point average of higher than 4.1… Received the Certificate of Meritorious Service from the Maryland State Department of Education.
