Matt Sanchez, the 2016 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, joined the Loyola men's soccer staff as a student assistant coach for the 2017 season.

Sanchez, an international goalkeeper, transferred to Loyola from Old Dominion for the 2014 season and became Loyola's first goalkeeper to earn a conference player of the year award since 2002, being named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and to the All-Patriot League First Team in 2016. In logging 4493 minutes in goal for the Greyhounds, he concluded his career with 12 shutouts and 195 saves in 48 games. As a senior, his .610 goals-against average, .875 save percentage and 4.38 saves per conference game average ranked second in the Patriot League.

Also the starting goalkeeper for the Puerto Rican Men's National Team, Sanchez has participated in the U-20 World Cup, CONCACAF Finals and CFU Championships. In addition, he played every minute of the 2016 Olympic and 2018 World Cup qualifiers for Puerto Rico, traveling to Jamaica, Mexico, Grenada, Anguilla, Bermuda, Scotland and Puerto Rico for matches. In January 2017, Sanchez was chosen to participate in a preseason trial with DC United. 

A four-year starting goalkeeper at McDonogh School, Sanchez recorded a state-record 54 shutouts from 2009-12 for then-head coach and current Loyola coach Steve Nichols. He also led the Eagles to three-consecutive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship games.
