Women's Lacrosse Falls to Boston University, 14-10

March 14, 2007

Final Stats

Baltimore, Md. - A 3-1 run late in the second half was not enough for the Loyola women's lacrosse team to overcome Boston University in a 14-10 loss Wednesday afternoon on Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. The Greyhounds fall to 1-4 on the season with the loss while the Terriers improve to 2-1 overall.

BU opened the game with an early goal by Lauren Morton at 1:55. Loyola quickly answered with back-to-back goals to take the lead. Sophomore Elizabeth Weber scored the first Loyola goal in the fourth minute off a pass from classmate Colleen O'Keefe. Junior Maura Kenny scored the next goal, less than a minute later, for the 2-1 lead. The teams exchanged goals for the 3-2 score before a 4-0 run by the Terriers gave them a 6-3 lead at 16:53. Loyola freshman Emily Gibson broke up the BU run with a goal in the 17th minute, assisted by Kenny, for the 6-4 score but Boston finished the half outscoring Loyola 3-2 for the 9-6 lead at the intermission.

After an exchange of goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half and the score set at 10-7, the Terriers scored three unanswered goals to extend their lead to 13-7 in the 45th minute. The Greyhounds rallied, scoring three of the final four goals of the game, but it wouldn't be enough in the 14-10 final.

Kenny and Colleen O'Keefe led for Loyola with two goals and an assist apiece. Kate McHarg added two goals while Bridget O'Keefe, Kate Filippelli, Weber and Gibson each scored once.

Junior defender Kristen Stone tallied five groundballs and five caused turnovers while Meg Taylor won a team-high three draw controls.

Freshman goalkeeper Karen Nicolaus stopped eight shots for Loyola while classmate Courtney Burhans earned her first time in goal but recorded no saves.

For BU, Sarah Dalton led with five goals while Erica Baumgartner added one goal and five assists. Angie Martin scored three times while Lauren Morton had two tallies. Morton also added two assists. Stephanie Walker, Traci Landy and McKinley Curro each scored once while Kait Gentry had one assist.

Dalton led the Terriers on the draw as well, winning a game-high of four. Morton recorded a team-high of four groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Goalkeeper Jenna Golden recorded 10 saves for BU.

Loyola hits the road for their next outing, visiting BIG EAST opponent UConn on Saturday, March 17.
