Men's Soccer Garners National Ranking

Sept. 10, 2007

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College men's soccer program was recognized by College Soccer News in this week's national poll with a No. 26 ranking as sophomore co-captain Tennant McVea garnered National Team of the Week honors for his part in Loyola's wins over Adelphi and No. 23 Towson. The Greyhounds, who had a pair of shutouts last week, are 4-0 for the first time since the start of the 1994 season.

McVea, a defender for the Greyhounds, played a significant role in Loyola's two shutouts last week. On top of his excellent defensive play in the middle, McVea scored Sunday's game-winner with a header in the first half of play. He was named the Loyola College "Black & Decker" Soccer Classic MVP and now has two goals (both game-winning goals) on two shot attempts for the season.

Overall, the Greyhounds have outscored opponents 8-2 this season and are 1-0 against ranked opponents, outscoring them by a 3-0 margin. Freshman Phil Bannister has three of Loyola's eight goals and leads the team with seven points.

Wake Forest in the nation's top ranked team in the College Soccer News poll with a 4-0 record as well. Indiana and SMU round out the top three, while season opponents Gonzaga (21) and Fairfield (30) cracked the Top 30. Loyola will play George Washington at home this Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.
