LEWISBURG, Pa. — Loyola Maryland leaned on a strong defensive effort and standout goalkeeping to earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Bucknell on Tuesday night at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium.
Despite being outshot 19-8, the Greyhounds (3-10-3, 2-5-2 Patriot League) held firm against the Bison attack, anchored by senior goalkeeper Dylan van der Walt, who recorded five saves in 76 minutes of action. Ryan Haskell added another save in relief, while the team defense contributed a crucial block to preserve the clean sheet.
Charlie Herley led Loyola's offensive push with three shots, two of which were on target, including a late effort in the 90th minute that forced a diving save from Bucknell's Rex Alphen. Richie Nichols added two shots and was instrumental in midfield before receiving a red card in the 89th minute.
Loyola's back line, featuring Jahvar Stephenson, Ryan Andrews, Curtis Wagner, and Kayin Oladinni, absorbed pressure throughout the match, combining for over 300 minutes played and limiting Bucknell's chances to mostly long-range efforts.
The Greyhounds showed their mettle in the second half, generating seven of their eight shots and earning four corner kicks. Their best stretch came in the final 15 minutes, when they forced multiple saves and blocked shots while down a man.
Bucknell (9-3-5, 4-2-3) controlled possession (62%) and had more shots on goal (7), but couldn't break through Loyola's disciplined shape and timely interventions.
