Cronin, Morris Named MAAC Swimmers Of The Week

Oct. 20, 2010

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland freshman Caitlin Cronin was named the MAAC Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week, and sophomore Brennan Morris earned MAAC Men's Swimmers of the Week, the league office announced today.

This week's awards were the first of the season and honored Cronin and Morris following their performances at the Greyhounds' season-opener against George Mason and the U.S. Naval Academy on October 9.

Cronin set a school record in her first intercollegiate meet, winning the 200-yard freestyle against Navy and George Mason. She clocked a time of 1:53.75, edging Navy's Allison Ranzau by a half second.

Her time eclipsed the previous school record of 1:53.87, set in 2009 by Emily Benton. In addition to her record-setting victory in the 200 free, Cronin took second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle.

Cronin shared the award with Marist's Michelle Fountain.

Morris won three events to help the Greyhounds defeat George Mason in their first meet of the season. He won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles and the 200-yard individual medley.

His time in the 1,000 free, 9:29.40, was more than eight seconds better than the second-place finisher, and he won the 500 free by almost three seconds. His final victory came in the 200 IM, a race he coasted to a win by more than seven seconds.

The award is the first of Cronin's career and the fourth for Morris, the 2010 MAAC Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer.
