EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands - Loyola University Maryland senior-to-be Philip Scholz had his best finish thus far at the 2010 International Paralympic Committee World Swimming Championships, taking the silver in the 400-meter freestyle.

He swam a time of 4:49.40 to easily outpace Victor Smyrnov of the Ukraine for second place. Spain's Enhamed Mohamed too first in the event with a time of 4:44.08.

Scholz, who is a member of the two-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Team at Loyola, is blind and competes in the S11 category of the Paralympic competitions.

Prior to Thursday's 400 freestyle, Scholz had claimed fifth in the 200-meter individual medley and sixth in both the 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle.

Scholz wraps up his competition at the Championships on Friday with the 100-meter backstroke.
