Swimmer Morris, Diver Mixa Capture MAAC Weekly Awards

Feb. 1, 2011

EDISON, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving teams received two accolades on Wednesday as Brennan Morris was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week and Elizabeth Mixa earned MAAC Diver of the Week honors, the league announced today.

The award marks the sixth MAAC Swimmer of the Week award for Morris in 2010-2011.

Morris won three individual events on Saturday for the third straight week while leading Loyola over La Salle, 154.5-145.5. He began the day with a win in the men's 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:20.39, nearly breaking the pool record of 9:19.21.

The sophomore then touched the wall first in the men's 200-yard backstroke by two seconds with a time of 1:53.41, followed by a win in the men's 200-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 1:55.28.

Elizabeth Mixa captures her first career MAAC award with Tuesday's announcement. Mixa, a freshman, posted the second-best all-time score at Loyola in the one-meter event against La Salle on Saturday with a 253.35, just short of the school record and the NCAA qualifying score of 255.

Mixa also recorded the fifth-best score all-time at Loyola, posting a 219.68 in the three-meter event.

Loyola returns to the water at the MAAC Championships on February 17-19, in Buffalo, N.Y.
