Final Stats

BOSTON - Loyola University Maryland women's basketball dropped a 74-55 contest to fellow Patriot League newcomer Boston University on Saturday.

Coming off the bench, junior Nai Brown scored a team-best 14 points, while Lisa Mirarchi, Jeneh Perry and Nicole Krusen added eight points each. Perry led the team in rebounds with 12 boards for the afternoon. She was two points shy of recording her first career double-double.

The Terriers (11-16 overall, 6-8 Patriot League) used a 12-2 run midway through the first half to take control of a 41-21 lead at the break.

In the first half, Loyola (5-20, 2-12) shot only 18-percent from the floor, while Boston University shot 37-percent, making an impressive six baskets from behind the arc. The Terriers also made all nine of their free-throw attempts, while the Greyhounds connected on 9-of-12 from the charity stripe.

The Greyhounds opened the second half in the same fashion as the first using their bigs, Nneka Offodile in the first and Lauren Daugherty in the second half, to spark the team's scoring efforts. The freshman post countered four unanswered points by the BU Terriers, giving way to a 45-25 deficit, with seventeen and a half minutes left to play.

Moments later, Offodile stopped the Terriers' offense with a big block near the end of the team's shot clock buzzer. The Greyhounds brought it back to their end of the court and found Krusen open for the three, 47-28.

At the first media timeout, Loyola outscored the Terriers 7-6, extending the lead by one with a Brittany Butler free throw, 47-29.

Krusen recorded a personal eight-point run, including two three-point field goals and one layup over four minutes. The senior ended the day with two three's and two rebounds.

Mirarchi put pressure on the defense, while making an impact on the offensive end as well. She sank a three-pointer with 11:46 remaining, 56-37. The freshman guard recorded two steals and six assists, proving her strength on both ends of the court.

With 8:22 remaining in the half, Loyola recorded it's third three of the half. Sophomore Diana Logan found the net and pulled Loyola within 19. Logan was backed up by five free throws by Mirarchi, Perry and Brown. Butler capped off the free-throw frenzy with jumper, 68-47.

Boston University held a 20-plus lead with only 30 seconds remaining in the game, but a Perry layup cut the deficit to 19.

Loyola ended up shooting 30.5-percent from the floor, making four three-point field goals all in the second half.

The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 19, traveling to Bucknell University for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
