BALTIMORE - Bucknell converted a second-half penalty kick to escape Ridley Athletic Complex with a 1-0 win over the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team Wednesday night.
Â
Loyola controlled play for the majority of the first half, outshooting the Bison, 7-2. Bucknell packed it in the box and ultimately blocked five of the Greyhounds' first-half shots, though.Â
Â
Following a series of blocked shots, Gabriel Carlsson had a chance to give Loyola a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of play, sending his free kick to the far post. Bucknell goalkeeper Ryan Ott made a leaping save to keep it from becoming a goal.Â
Â
In the 29th minute, Brian Saramago had Ott beat, but his shot was cleared from the goal line by a Bison defender.Â
Â
Tyler Peterson scored the go-ahead goal for Bucknell in the 52nd minute, stutter-stepping on the penalty kick before placing it in the right-side netting.Â
Â
Loyola had its chance for the equalizer in the 77th minute, but Saramago's penalty kick sailed over the goal.
Â
The Greyhounds finished the game with a 13-5 lead in shots and the advantage in corners, 4-0.
Â
Loyola will take on Patriot League opponent Army West Point this Sunday at 5 p.m. at Clinton Field.
