BALTIMORE – Sophomores
Emma Schouten and
Megan Dickey of the Loyola University Maryland women's swimming and diving team won individual titles as competition concluded at the annual Thomas Murphy Invitational at Mangione Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Both the Loyola men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished fourth in the meet. On the men's side, Drexel University won the championship with 927 points while Johns Hopkins University was second with 871.50 points. West Chester finished third with 752.50 points while the Greyhounds had 631 points.
The nationally-ranked West Chester women's team won the women's competition with 1,075.50 points. Drexel took second place with 799.50 points, just ahead of Johns Hopkins (777) and Loyola (750.)
In the women's competition, Ann Carozza and Georgia Wright of West Chester shared the Swimmer of the Meet award with Sydney Okubo of Johns Hopkins. Nadia Mulder of West Chester was honored as the Women's Diver of the Meet.
On Saturday, Carozza finished first in the 100-butterfly (0:54.81) and the 200-butterfly (2:05.59). She also swam on the victorious 200-free relay team with Michaela Lantz, Sydney Wareham and Lizzy Miller (1:34.73).
Dickey finished first in the 100-free for Loyola. She won the event with a time of 0:52.85. Freshman
Sophie Jahan of Loyola took tenth place (0:54.94) in the 100-free.
Schouten gave the Greyhounds a first-place finish in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:21.45.
Devin Cronin was fourth in the 200-breaststroke (2:24.01).
In the 200-free relay, the Greyhounds had two teams finish among the top five.
Taylor Ament and
Emily Koegl joined Schouten and Cronin on the 200-free relay that finished fourth (1:39.11). Dickey and Jahan teamed up with Annie Hayburn and
Elizabeth Walsh on the other 200-free relay team that was fifth (1:39.46).
In the 400 I.M., April Forsthoffer of Drexel took first place with a time of 4:26.61.
Emily O'Halloran of Loyola was 11
th (4:46.27) and
Lauren Joyce of Loyola was 12
th (4:51.51).
Koegl and Hayburn swam well in the 100-fly. Koegl took third place (0:57.30) behind Carozza. Hayburn turned in a time of 0:59.09 to place ninth.
Julia McCarthy of West Chester won the title in the 200-free with a time of 1:53.81.
Brooke Sharkey was the top finisher for Loyola (2:02.76), taking 17
th place.
In the 100-breaststroke, Cronin and Schouten finished in the top four. Gab Rudy of Drexel won the event with a time of 1:04.21. Cronin was third with a time of 1:05.15, just ahead of Schouten who was fourth (1:06.34).
Alexa Dutch of Drexel finished first in the 100-backstroke with a time of 0:55.96. Walsh gave Loyola a third place finish with a time of 0:57.75 while Ament took sixth (1:00.22).
Wright of West Chester, the two-time NCAA Division II national champion in the 1650-free, won the 1650-free with a time of 16:48.16. Jahan took 13
th place with a time of 18:24.75.
Johns Hopkins won the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:46.44. Walsh, Cronin, Koegl and Hayburn of Loyola were fifth (1:49.82).
In the 200-backstroke, Okubu finished first for Hopkins with a time of 2:03.68. For Loyola, Hayburn took fourth place (2:09.06). O'Halloran placed 12
th (2:14.08).
Freshman
Molly Davis of Loyola finished fourth in the 200-fly (2:08.64) as Carozza took first. Walsh contributed a fifth place finish (2:10.33).
In the 400-free relay, West Chester took first place behind Miller, Carozza, Wareham and Lantz. The Golden Rams had a time of 3:29.15. The Greyhounds' relay team of Koegl, Cronin, Jahan and Dickey took fifth (3:38.4).
Mulder of West Chester won the one-meter diving with 280.05 points. Allison Echevarria of Loyola was fifth (220.85) while Jess Stolfi took sixth place (186.35).
In the men's competition, Jason Arthur of Drexel was the Swimmer of the Meet while
Jeremy Unanue of Loyola was the Diver of the Meet.
Arthur contributed to Drexel's cause by winning the 200-backstroke (1:47.81). Freshman
Jonathan Brooks of Loyola was seventh (1:57.90).
For West Chester, John Barretto was a double winner in the 100-butterfly and the 200-butterfly. He won the 100-fly with a time of 0:49.54. In the 200-fly, he won with a time of 1:50.53.
Sophomore Patrick Clisham of Loyola took 12
th place in the 100-fly (0:52.75) while Hussey finished 11
th in the 200-fly (1:59.73).
Junior Dylan Norton of West Chester edged Loyola's
Sung Lee for first place in the 400 I.M. Norton won the event with a time of 4:06.59 while Lee was second with a time of 4:10.87. Zac Metzler of Loyola finished seventh (4:15.53).
In the 1650-free, Collin Pettit of West Chester finished first with a time of 16:10.43. Hussey was fifth (16:22.44) for Loyola and
Nick Pacitti was sixth (16:23.02).
Pacitti also finished 17
th in the 200-free as freshman Noah Corbett of Hopkins took first place (1:39.59). Pacitti had a time of 1:48.04.
Freshman Max Chen of Hopkins finished first in the 100-breaststroke (0:54.91) while
John Callaghan of Loyola was fourth (0:58.03). Freshman
David Sears of Loyola finished tenth (0:59.86).
Johns Hopkins won both the 200-free relay as Emile Kuyl, Brandon Fabian, Max Chen and Nat Davenport teamed up to win the race with a time of 1:24.38. Hayburn, Hussey, Clisham and Lee finished fifth for Loyola (1:25.75).
Kuyl also took first place in the 100-backstroke with a time of 0:50.61. Sophomore
Mark Boran of Loyola was fifth (0:53.08) and Brooks was eighth (0:53.48).
Drexel captured the 200-medley relay as Arthur, Ralph Cannaruzzi, Paris Raphis and John Scully took first with a time of 1:31.89.
Conor Rutigliano, joined Hayburn, Callaghan and Clisham on the Loyola team that took fifth (1:35.87).
In the 100-free, Stathis Malamar of Drexel finished first with a time of 0:45.34. Hayburn was the Greyhounds' top swimmer as he took 12
th (0:48.31).
Jarod Anderson of West Chester won the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:06.12. Loyola's Callaghan took fifth (2:10.11) and Lee was seventh (2:12.44).
In the 400-free relay, Noah Corbitt, Brandon Fabian, Max Chen and Collin Hughes of Johns Hopkins finished first with a time of 3:04.22. Hussey, Hayburn, Anderson and Lee led Loyola to a seventh place showing (3:11.65).
Unanue won the one-meter diving event with 203.15 points for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds return to action next Saturday at Fairfield University.
