BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland head men's soccer coach
Steve Nichols has announced the addition of Brock Yetso to the program as a volunteer assistant goalkeeper coach.
Â
Yetso brings a wealth of experience to the Greyhounds, as he advanced to four NCAA Tournaments and two final fours as a goalkeeper at the University of Virginia, represented the United States with the US Men's National Team and played professional soccer with the Maryland Mania.
Â
"We're excited to have Brock on board with us," head coach
Steve Nichols said. "He's a perfect fit for our goalkeepers and our team right now.
Â
"A youth national team player who became one of the best goalkeepers in the country, Brock helped Virginia to four-straight NCAA appearances as a player. Now, as the President and CEO of a company, and a husband and father to three kids, he provides great leadership and an understanding of how to help our guys get to the next level. Our goalkeepers are fortunate to have someone on our side who has been there and done that at the highest level to help us grow as a team and a program."
Â
"I'm grateful to the coaches and players for welcoming me into the locker room and giving me the opportunity to contribute to the team's success this season," Yetso said. "Loyola has a rich history of some of the best goalkeepers in college soccer and it's an honor to work with these players and the team to continue this tradition and compete for a championship."Â
Â
A two-year team captain and 1999 graduate of UVa, Yetso concluded his career ranked fourth on Virginia's career records for games (53) and minutes (4,492) played in goal, fifth for total saves (151), sixth for goals-against average (0.86), and seventh for save percentage (.778) and solo shutouts (15).
Â
Yetso also started all 24 games as a junior in 1997, one shy of the school record, while his 2,269 minutes played that year was a school record at the time (and now ranks second). His 79 saves in 1997 ranks second in all-time program history, and his eight solo shutouts from 1998 ranked third at the time of his graduation, and are currently tied for seventh in Cavalier history.
Â
After graduation, Yetso went on to play one season of professional soccer with the Maryland Mania, a team that lasted only one year, before getting involved with the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, a nonprofit organization that he's currently the President and CEO of.
Â
A native of Columbia, Maryland, and a graduate of Centennial High School, Yetso recently earned his MBA from Loyola's Sellinger School of Business. He married the former Julie Kapcala, a two-time MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year who helped the Greyhounds to four-straight conference championship game appearances as a player, including winning the MAAC title as a senior in 2000. The couple currently resides in Towson, Maryland, with their three children, Olsen, Austin and Everly.
