BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team and Colgate University played to a double overtime scoreless draw in the Patriot League opener for both teams at Ridley Athletic Complex Friday night.
Loyola maintained possession for most of the game with high quality chances, but they were unable to convert on the opportunities. The Greyhounds finished the game with a 14-7 advantage in shots and a 15-1 lead in corner kicks.
Loyola looked to have a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute when Brian Saramago headed in a corner kick from Gabriel Carlsson, although the goal was called back by a foul in the box.
Josh Fawole then had a pair of near misses in the second half sending shots off the crossbar in the 50th and 87th minutes of play and Colgate goalkeeper Jacob Harris got enough of a hand on Sam Brown's blast from inside the box to push the ball wide of the goal in the 55th minute.
In the overtime period, the Greyhounds had a chance to clinch the game with Morgan Lussi getting ahold of the ball to take a quick shot from the top right corner. His attempt sailed wide right of the goal post though.
Jake Dengler then had a shot saved by Harris in the 103rd minute. Chase Vosvick made a diving save in the 107th minute to preserve his eighth career shut out, and third of the season.
Vosvick finished the game with four saves, while Harris recorded seven.
The Greyhounds travel to take on Princeton in a non-conference contest next Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Roberts Stadium.
