Hounds Never Trail In Three-Game Sweep Of Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Five Loyola University Maryland players had five or more kills, and freshman Katie Forsythe set another school digs record, on Saturday as the Greyhounds swept Lafayette College, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18, in Patriot League action.

Forsythe had 32 digs in the match, setting a school record for digs in a three-set match, eclipsing the 25 by Nina Camaioni in a 2008 match against Siena College. Earlier this season, Forsythe set the school single-match record with 41 digs in a win over Towson University.

As a team, the Greyhounds' 75 digs were the second-most in school history in a three-set match, behind only the 76 from a 2011 win over Rider University.

Abby Hamilton led the attack in kills for the second match in a row, posting 11, while Haley Puddy added nine, and Ann Ernst had eight. Molly Jarvis chipped in seven kills, and Mackenzie Fedota had five. Jarvis and Fedota combined to hit .400 out of the middle for the Greyhounds.

Alex Fisher led Loyola with 23 assists and had her second-straight double-double with a career-best 15 digs.

Loyola (5-9 overall, 1-1 Patriot League) never trailed in the match, although Lafayette (5-9, 0-2) tied the first set at 12-12 before Loyola reeled off four points in a row.

In the second, Lafayette drew to within 6-4 before the Greyhounds tallied seven-straight to lead 13-4. During the run, Puddy had two of her nine kills, and Forsythe posted a pair of her career-best five service aces.

The Leopards trailed by as many as seven in the third set before scoring four-straight points to get within three, 18-15, but a hitting error and a Greyhounds block by Fedota pushed Loyola up five.

After a Lafayette timeout, the Leopards got back to within three, 20-17, but a Lafayette service ace gave the Greyhounds a sideout point. Forsythe then scored twice in a row with aces, and a Puddy kill made it 24-17. Lafayette would get one more on a sideout block, but Jarvis put away a kill for the final point of the win.

Loyola plays its final non-conference match of the regular-season on Tuesday, September 25 when it hosts Howard University at 7 p.m.
