ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior
Brian Saramago had a hand in three of the Loyola University Maryland's four goals Saturday night, leading the Greyhounds to a 4-1 win over Navy at the Glenn Warner Soccer Complex.
Â
Sophomore
Sam Brown netted the first goal of the game for a second-straight match, putting a cross from Saramago over Navy goalkeeper Ian Bramblett and into the back of the net in the ninth minute.
Â
Two minutes later, Saramago pushed
Gabriel Carlsson's free kick into the goal to give the Greyhounds an early 2-0 lead.
Â
Nico Brown looked to make it 3-0 in the 21st minute, but his left-footed blast sailed over the crossbar.
Â
After Navy answered in the 27th minute, heading in a corner kick, Saramago attempted to get the goal back, spinning a shot off Bramblett's fingers. That would be it for the first-half scoring chances though.
Â
Saramago started the scoring in the second half, dribbling around defenders to break free inside the box. He then sent a left-footed cross across the face of the goal for
Barry Sharifi to finish in the 59th minute, regaining a two-goal advantage for the Greyhounds.
Â
Nico Brown capped off the scoring in the 88th minute, taking a pass from Carlsson and sending an end-line shot into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Â
The Midshipmen's goal in the 27th minute halted sophomore goalkeeper
Chase Vosvick's shutout streak of 226 minutes. He finished the game with one save, while Bramblett earned four for Navy.
Â
Loyola will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Bucknell at 7 p.m.
