HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate Raiders used overtime to run away from the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team Saturday afternoon, handing the Greyhounds a 73-64 loss at Cotterell Court.

Junior
Hannah Niles hit a jumper with six seconds to play in regulation to give Loyola a 60-59 advantage, but the Raiders knocked down one of two free throws to force overtime. Colgate ran from there, scoring the first 13 points of the extra period to pull ahead 73-60. Sophomore
Delaney Connolly knocked down four-straight free throws after that to account for the final score.
Â
Sophomore
Isabella Therien led Loyola with her third collegiate double-double, scoring 27 points and adding 12 rebounds. Freshman
Taleah Dixon added 13 points for the Greyhounds and junior
Molly Taylor chipped in a season-high nine.
Â
Defensively, junior
Stephanie Karcz grabbed 13 rebounds and a game-high seven rebounds.
Â
For Colgate, Rachel Thompson led all players with 30 points and 15 rebounds.
Â
The Greyhounds fell behind early, as the Raiders scored on 52.9 percent of their first quarter points and found success in the paint. In scoring 20 of their first 26 points from inside, Colgate doubled-up on Loyola, forcing the Greyhounds to call a timeout at the 8:52 mark of the second quarter, down 26-13.
Â
Loyola made the adjustment defensively, but Nia Ahart sniped from downtown out of the timeout to push the Raiders ahead 29-13.
Â
Karcz's jumper broke Colgate's 7-0 run and following the Raiders' next free throw, Therien sparked a 10-0 run that brought the Greyhounds within five, 30-25, on Dixon's and-1 conversion at 2:42.
Â
Dixon answered Thompson's layup with a triple and then Therien answered each of Thompson's next two field goals with a jumper and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to send Loyola into the halftime break with a three-point deficit, 36-33.
Â
Colgate started the second half scoring, but Dixon knocked down a 3-pointer, followed by a triple from Taylor to give Loyola its first lead of the contest, 39-38. The Greyhounds didn't end there, as Dixon's jumper and senior
Bri Betz-White's layup stretched Loyola's streak to 10-straight points, giving them a 43-38 lead at the 3:52 mark.
Â
The Raiders would end the quarter on a 6-0 run, though, regaining a brief lead, 44-43.
Â
Therien scored her first points of the second half in the fourth quarter and regained the lead for Loyola, 45-44. Taylor then drained her third 3-pointer of the game to put the Greyhounds ahead by four, 48-44. It was all Therien for Loyola for the next four minutes, as she scored all 10 of the Greyhounds points to keep them in front, 58-54, by the media timeout at the 4:03 mark.
Â
Although Loyola wouldn't score again until Niles' jumper with six seconds to play, the Greyhounds held the Raiders to just one field goal and three free throws in that time, including a pair with 19 seconds to play that gave Colgate a 59-58 advantage.
Â
Niles' jumper flipped the lead back to Loyola, 60-59, but the Raiders' free throw secured the overtime period.
Â
Loyola will remain on the road and head to Lehigh on Wednesday before returning home next Saturday to host Army West Point in the program's annual Women In Sports Day event. Tipoff with the Mountain Hawks is set for 6 p.m. Saturday's WISD events start at noon before the Greyhounds' 2 p.m. contest with the Army Black Knights.
