Women’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Bucknell, Remains Second in Patriot League Standings

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Paige Sim made six saves in goal, and Loyola University Maryland used an all-around team effort to pick up a key road point with a 0-0 draw at Bucknell on Wednesday.

The Greyhounds (6-6-3, 3-1-3) hold on to second place in the league standings while the Bison (5-10-1, 3-3-1) drop into a tie for fifth. Offense was hard to come by throughout the Patriot League on the evening, with three of the five contests between conference opponents finishing in scoreless ties.

The two teams combined for just a pair of shots on goal in the opening half. Sim saved a redirect attempt from Emilene Parham in the 35th minute, and Bucknell goalkeeper Kaylee Donnelly secured an attempt from Hannah Hoefs less than three minutes later.

Offensive opportunities increased for both sides after the intermission. Loyola had its best flurry of chances in the final 20 minutes of regulation, as Gillian Borton sent a shot just over the crossbar while Hoefs and Sarah Bayer both had quality efforts stopped by Donnelly.

Sim added four more saves in the second half, including a charging effort to cut off a potential breakaway by Bri Kropinack in the 64th minute. Sim's six stops overall were one shy of her season high, as she picks up her third shutout and lowers her season goals-against average down to 0.59.

The Greyhounds had four of the game's seven shots in overtime, including a 4-1 edge in the first extra session, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Loyola earns its first result at Bucknell since joining the Patriot League in 2013, snapping a six-game losing streak in the series.

Shots overall were 17-12 in favor of the Bison, while both teams earned four corner kicks.

The Patriot League standings remain incredibly tight heading into the final two games of the regular season, with the second through seventh-place teams separated by just three points. The Greyhounds are four points back of first-place Navy, with the teams scheduled to meet in Annapolis on Friday, Nov. 1.

Next up for Loyola is a big 12 p.m. Homecoming matchup against Colgate (3-8-4, 1-3-3) on Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex. Seven seniors and graduate student Kate Reese will also be recognized in a pregame ceremony on the field.
