BALTIMORE – Lexi Mitchell headed in a corner kick with 2:33 remaining in double overtime, sending Colgate to a 1-0 victory over Loyola University Maryland women's soccer on Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Greyhounds (6-7-3, 3-2-3) lose at home for the first time since Sept. 6 and miss out on a chance to clinch a Patriot League tournament spot. They can still return to the postseason with a win or draw at Navy in the regular season finale next Friday, or through help from others.
Paige Sim made a season-high eight saves in goal for Loyola, while Sophia Boggs was required to make five stops for the Raiders (4-8-4, 2-3-3). Colgate led 21-16 in shots; the Greyhounds had a 10-8 advantage in corner kicks.
Sarah Mirr had perhaps the best chance for the home side in regulation, with her free header in front stopped by Boggs in the 73rd minute. Loyola also earned three late corners in single OT.
Kate Reese had two shots during that stretch, with one effort blocked and the other sent just high.
Mitchell's game-winner came off a corner from Abby Sotomayor in the 108th minute. Colgate improves to 2-0-1 in its last three conference games after starting the year 0-3-2 in Patriot League play.
Loyola went to overtime tied 0-0 for a fourth time in its last five Patriot League contests. Two of those games finished in scoreless draws, with the Greyhounds dropping the other two in extra time.
