Women’s Soccer Draws at Navy, Clinches Patriot League Tournament Appearance

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Loyola University Maryland women's soccer is returning to the Patriot League tournament for the first time since 2015.

Paige Sim made seven saves, including one off a penalty kick in the second half, as the Greyhounds secured a 0-0 draw at conference-leading Navy on Friday night.

Loyola (6-7-4, 3-2-4), which was already guaranteed a playoff spot following earlier results this evening, clinched the No. 4 seed and a home quarterfinal game with the draw. The Greyhounds will face either Bucknell, Lafayette or Colgate at Ridley Athletic Complex at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night (Update: Loyola will face Lafayette on Tuesday following the Leopards' 2-1 win over Boston University over the weekend).

Navy (15-2-2, 6-1-2) had a 25-2 advantage in shots, including a 12-0 edge after the intermission, but was unable to get anything past Sim. The freshman goalkeeper made several standout stops, diving to her left to secure a PK attempt from Cadie Higginson in the 60th minute, and tracking down a long-distance free kick by Baseley McClaskey in the closing minutes of regulation to force OT.

The Mids had four additional shots in the two extra sessions, but three were sent wide and the final attempt was saved by Sim with 2:48 left in the contest.

The Greyhounds will be making their third tournament appearance since joining the Patriot League prior to the 2013 season. They qualified for the first time in 2014, and advanced to the semifinals during their-most recent trip in 2015.

Navy, which will host next weekend's Patriot League semifinals and championship game as the No. 1 seed, saw a four-game winning streak come to an end.

Sim records her fourth individual clean sheet of the season. She is now 5-2-4 with a 0.56 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage, and she becomes the third goalkeeper to keep Navy off the scoreboard in 2019.
