Ingram’s Second-Half Goals Send Men’s Soccer to 4-2 Win at Mount St. Mary’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Justin Ingram netted a pair of goals after halftime, including the game-winner in the 53rd minute, as Loyola University Maryland topped Mount St. Mary's by a 4-2 final to record a third-consecutive victory on Tuesday.

Sam Brown and Josh Fawole scored for the Greyhounds (5-6) in the opening half, while Brian Saramago added a pair of assists in the win. Loyola has won each of the past 20 meetings against the Mountaineers (4-5), a streak which began in the mid-1960's.

The Greyhounds had comfortable advantages in both shots (22-6) and corners (7-2), controlling play for a majority of the contest. The home side, though, opened the scoring 5:57 in, with Boris Nana Tonzi heading a corner kick by Miguel Lucero into the left-hand corner.

That lead held until the 34th minute, when Davey Mason sent in a cross from the left side. That ball was cleared to the top of the box, where Brown blasted an effort into the top-right corner for his first goal of 2019. Brown, a second-team All-Patriot League performer last season, now has six goals overall in his collegiate career.

Less than three minutes later, the Greyhounds moved in front. Saramago intercepted a clearing attempt and found Barry Sharifi on the right side. Sharifi then set up Fawole for a deflection in front to make it 2-1. Fawole scored for a second-consecutive game and a third time overall this season.

Mount St. Mary's equalized against the run of play on a strike from Lucero in the 51st minute, but the tie lasted for only 1:22 of game action. Ingram made a run on the left side and beat Mount goalkeeper Riccardo Zonta after a quick give-and-go with Saramago. His second goal of the game and third of 2019 came on a penalty kick with 35:37 remaining in regulation.

With his two helpers tonight, Saramago is now tied for the Patriot League lead with five assists on the year. His 19 career assists are tied for 14th in program history.

Goalkeeper Chase Vosvick played all 90 minutes to record his 24th career victory. Loyola has tallied four goals in three of its five victories this season.

The Greyhounds return to Patriot League play on Saturday, traveling to Bethlehem, Pa., for a big road matchup at Lehigh (7-3-1, 3-0-1).
