Mason, Denison Named Academic All-Patriot League Performers

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League released its Academic All-Patriot League team for men's soccer on Monday afternoon, with Loyola University Maryland senior Davey Mason and junior Jacob Denison each included among a group of 11 student-athletes across the conference.

To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve in his sport. Freshmen and student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

Mason (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) adds another accolade to his season total, as he was previously honored as a second team All-Patriot League selection last Friday after taking home two Defender of the Week awards during the regular season. A business administration major, he entered the fall with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.45. Mason has totaled one goal and six assists while starting all 18 games so far this season. He leads all Patriot League defenders and ranks third overall in assists, while his lone goal was a late equalizer at 2018 NCAA quarterfinalist James Madison.

Denison (Gaithersburg, Md./Bullis School) becomes the third Greyhound to earn multiple Academic All-Patriot League awards, as he was previously recognized by the conference last fall. He currently holds a GPA of 3.73 while majoring in economics. Denison has also started every game on the backline, contributing to a defense which has posted five shutouts, allowed one goal or fewer in seven-straight games, and gave up only 22 shots on goal in nine games against Patriot League opponents. He also picked up a pair of assists, setting up goals in conference victories over Army West Point and Holy Cross.

Eight Loyola men's soccer student-athletes have now combined for 11 Academic All-Patriot League honors since the Greyhounds joined the conference in 2013. Loyola was one of just two schools to receive multiple academic honorees this season.

The Greyhounds, who went 5-0-1 in their final six games to conclude the regular season, are seeded No. 2 in this year's Patriot League tournament. Loyola will host No. 4 Lafayette in a semifinal matchup at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to Saturday's conference championship game.
